The Sanderson Spartans posted their biggest victory yet this season on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 57-32 margin over Athens Drive. Given Sanderson's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 126th, while Athens Drive is ranked 412th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Nathan Fife was his usual excellent self, scoring 30 points along with five assists and five rebounds. Patrick Dalton was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with three steals.
Athens Drive's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Marcus Green, who scored nine points along with five rebounds, and Derek Crumpton who scored six points.
Sanderson is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season. As for Athens Drive, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-10.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sanderson will square off against Broughton at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Athens Drive, they will head out on the road to challenge Enloe at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
