Having just played yesterday, the Newport Wildcats will jump right back in to play the Danville Christian Academy Warriors at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Newport sitting on ten straight victories and Danville Christian Academy on six.
Newport proved they can win big last Thursday (they won by 45) but on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Sayre and snuck past 45-42. Despite the victory, that was the fewest points Newport has scored all season.
It was another big night for Deshaun Jackson jr, who scored 13 points along with four steals and three blocks. Jabari Covington was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Meanwhile, Danville Christian Academy beat Jackson County 60-47 on Monday. Given Danville Christian Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky basketball rankings (they are ranked 38th, while Jackson County is ranked 179th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Newport has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 18-3 record this season. As for Danville Christian Academy, they pushed their record up to 13-4 with that win, which was their ninth straight at home.
