Baseball Recap: Richmond Wins Going Away Against Fort Wayne South Side

Richmond's tournament run continued when they took on Fort Wayne South Side on Saturday. The Red Devils were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Archers. Considering the Red Devils have won six contests by more than eight runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Aiden McWhinney was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 11 over six innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Richmond is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-7 otherwise. McWhinney was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Ja'Riyah Delucio was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Darwyn Roman, who went 1-for-3 with three runs.

Richmond always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .526. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fort Wayne South Side only posted an OBP of .280.

Richmond has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Fort Wayne South Side, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-15.

Looking ahead, Richmond will head out on the road to take on Pendleton Heights at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Red Devils' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Arabians have averaged an impressive 8.3 runs per game this season. As for Fort Wayne South Side, they will be playing at home against Fort Wayne Northrop at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
