Russell County is a perfect 6-0 against Abbeville since March of 2023 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Warriors will welcome the Yellowjackets at 5:00 p.m. Abbeville took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Russell County, who comes in off a win.
Russell County took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They blew past Park Crossing 17-2. Considering the Warriors' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Ryleigh Howard was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Kennedi Ellis was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three stolen bases, and four runs. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (two). Kinsley Enfinger was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Russell County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Park Crossing only managed one hit.
Meanwhile, Abbeville was not able to break out of their rough patch last Thursday as the team picked up their 16th straight defeat dating back to last season. They came up short against Russell County, falling 16-6.
Russell County's victory was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 5-19. As for Abbeville, their loss dropped their record down to 0-9.
Everything went Russell County's way against Abbeville in their previous matchup last Thursday, as Russell County made off with a 16-6 win. Will the Warriors repeat their success, or do the Yellowjackets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
