The Gila Ridge Hawks''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their sixth straight loss. They took a serious blow against Independence, falling 47-8. Gila Ridge was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 27-0.
Steven Navas threw for 88 yards on nine of 24 attempts. Michael Hayes was his top target, picking up 77 receiving yards and a touchdown. On the ground, Rishon Keele rushed for 70 yards.
Independence got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jimmie Canidate out in front who picked up 56 receiving yards and three touchdowns, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Armani Cruz was another key contributor, throwing for 178 yards and four touchdowns.
Gila Ridge's loss was their fourth straight at home , which bumped their record down to 1-9. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 13.5 points per game. As for Independence, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 8-2.
Gila Ridge does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Independence also has no future games currently scheduled.
