The Montgomery County Indians will challenge the Estill County Engineers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Montgomery County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season.
On Thursday, Montgomery County earned a 7-3 victory over Western Hills.
Lilliana Hill spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on five hits and racked up nine Ks.
On the hitting side, Montgomery County got a massive performance out of Sara Zink, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Madison Cox, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Montgomery County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Western Hills only managed five hits.
Estill County's found some homefield redemption this week after a overtime loss to North Laurel on Thursday. The Engineers walked away with an 8-3 win over Rockcastle County.
Estill County also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Bella Rice gave up three earned runs on nine hits.
At the plate, Kadara Skinner was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Brooklyn Ferrell was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run.
Estill County's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-9. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Montgomery County, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-5 record this season.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Montgomery County hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .341. However, it's not like Estill County struggles in that department as they've averaged .343. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Montgomery County's way against Estill County when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Montgomery County made off with a 12-4 victory. Will the Indians repeat their success, or do the Engineers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
