The Decatur Golden Gators waltzed into their match Tuesday with four straight wins but they left with five. They had just enough and edged Rogers out 57-54. This was payback for Decatur, who suffered a 61-19 defeat the last time these two teams met.
Decatur found their leader in underclassman Leilah Mulivai-Tobin, who scored 24 points along with four steals. Those 24 points set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Tamairah Allen, who scored six points along with eight rebounds and four steals.
Decatur pushed their record up to 9-3 with that win, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.7 points per game. As for Rogers, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-4.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Decatur will take on Mt. Rainier at 7:00 p.m. on January 11th. As for Rogers, they will be playing at home against Emerald Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday.
