Julianne Severson made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and fired off two home runs, four stolen bases, and ten RBI while going 6-for-6. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Lillian Severson was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing a base while going 5-for-6.
Even though they lost, Berean Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .409. This was only their first loss (out of five games) when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Morningside Academy had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Panthers a 19-0 shutout. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by eight runs or more this season.
Leigha Race made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.
In other batting news, Morgan Helphrey was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. Another player making a difference was Madison LeVasseur, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3.
Morningside Academy pushed their record up to 9-1 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Berean Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-3.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Berean Christian has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.4 hits per game. However, it's not like Morningside Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 2.8 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Berean Christian might still be hurting after the 17-1 loss they got from Morningside Academy in their previous matchup on Tuesday. Can Berean Christian avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
