The Burlington Christian Academy Royals will take on the Bethany Community Wolves at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Burlington Christian Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.5 runs per game this season.
Last Tuesday, Burlington Christian Academy earned a 5-2 win over North Raleigh Christian Academy.
Will Grubb spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on five hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Lofton Gonzalez, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Davis Philips, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Bethany Community won against Northeast Guilford on Monday with nine runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Wednesday. Bethany Community walked away with a 9-5 victory over Bartlett Yancey. Winning may never get old, but the Wolves sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Bethany Community also got a great performance from Jacob Schick as he tossed five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. What's more, Schick posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March of 2024.
On the hitting side, Nathan West was incredible, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. Ryan Rudd was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-4.
Bethany Community kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive matchups.
Bethany Community pushed their record up to 7-2 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Burlington Christian Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 9-1.
Monday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Burlington Christian Academy has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .499. However, it's not like Bethany Community struggles in that department as they've averaged .530. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Burlington Christian Academy beat Bethany Community 4-1 in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Will Burlington Christian Academy repeat their success, or does Bethany Community have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
