The Houston Mustangs struggled with threes on Tuesday (the Bartlett Panthers had five more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Houston was beaten by Bartlett 59-30. It was the first time this season that Houston let down their fans at home.
Houston's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Anna lee Avery, who scored 11 points. Laila Mcnamee was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Bartlett had a senior duo take command as Carrington Jones scored 16 points along with three steals and Morgan Williams scored 15 points along with five steals. The matchup was Jones' fifth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Kaylin Sheffield, who scored nine points.
Houston's defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 12-5. As for Bartlett, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season.
Houston will be playing in front of their home fans against Cordova at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Cordova is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. Bartlett is on the road again on Friday and play against Cardinal Ritter College Prep at 4:00 p.m. on January 5th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in their respective states (Cardinal Ritter College Prep is ranked tenth in Missouri, while Bartlett is ranked 17th in Tennessee).
