Baseball Recap: Volunteer Takes a Loss

Volunteer was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They came up short against the Grainger Grizzlies, falling 16-6. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Grizzlies this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-3 last Tuesday.

Brycen Feagins and Austin Williams did some serious damage despite the final result: Feagins scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3, while Williams scored a run while going 1-for-3. Feagins has become a key player for Volunteer: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 3-12 otherwise. Anthony Blasini also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Volunteer's loss dropped their record down to 5-13. As for Grainger, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-11 record this season.

Volunteer and Grainger could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Tennessee Rankings. The Falcons (ranked 263rd) will meet Morristown-Hamblen West (ranked 49th) at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Grainger will take on Unicoi County at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday with a big rank disadvantage (226 vs. 93).
