Baseball Recap: Blue Ridge Continues Road Dominance on Tuesday

Blue Ridge made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Show Low, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Blue Ridge was the clear victor by a 17-6 margin over Show Low on Tuesday. The Yellow Jackets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matches by ten runs or more this season.

Cooper Phillips tossed a big game, tossing 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off four hits.

On the hitting side, Brenton Newcomb and Kaden Edgington did most of the damage at the plate: Newcomb went 2-for-4 with five RBI, while Edgington scored two runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. Those five RBI gave Newcomb a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Matthew Rooney, who scored two runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

Blue Ridge always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .575. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Show Low only posted an OBP of .379.

Blue Ridge's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-3. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Show Low, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-5.

Coming up, Blue Ridge will venture away from home to square off against Alchesay at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Blue Ridge's pitchers better be ready for this one: Alchesay has averaged an impressive 9.6 runs per game this season. As for Show Low, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against San Tan Foothills at 3:30 p.m. San Tan Foothills has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.5 runs per game on average), something Show Low will no doubt try to take advantage of.
