Platteview has gone 9-1 against Arlington recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Trojans will venture away from home to challenge the Eagles at 4:30 p.m. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.
Beatrice hit Platteview with a five-run fifth inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Trojans came up short against the Orangemen, falling 12-2.
Dylan Thomas made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. Colt Brockman also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, Arlington fell victim to Lincoln Lutheran and their airtight pitching crew on Saturday. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 10-0 to the Warriors, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The Eagles have struggled against the Warriors recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Arlington also got a good showing from Wes Monke, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the fewest hits Monke has allowed since back in March.
At the plate, Arlington saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tanner Kyllo, who went 1-for-2 with one double.
Platteview's record is now 8-8. As for Arlington, their record now sits at 9-8.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Platteview has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Arlington struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Platteview was able to grind out a solid victory over Arlington in their previous meeting back in April of 2025, winning 3-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
