The Steele Canyon Cougars will face off against the La Costa Canyon Mavericks at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The last four games Steele Canyon has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Steele Canyon took a eight-run defeat the last time they faced off against Torrey Pines, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Cougars won by a run and slipped past the Falcons 8-7.

Ily Barclay was incredible, going 3-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. Kayala Hopkins was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, after low-scoring totals in their previous three contests, La Costa Canyon brought some dynamite into their most recent contest. They put the hurt on San Dieguito Academy with a sharp 10-1 win on Thursday. That looming 10-1 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Mavericks yet this season.
Gracie Camacho spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on one hit and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Norah Coulsell, who fired off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-4. Those runs were her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Sophie Nguyen, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.
La Costa Canyon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Steele Canyon has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-6-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for La Costa Canyon, their record now sits at 9-5-1.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Steele Canyon hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like La Costa Canyon struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Steele Canyon came up short against La Costa Canyon in their previous meeting back in March of 2019, falling 5-2. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
