The Sebastian River Sharks will head out to challenge the Merritt Island Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Sebastian River's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 13-0 margin over Lincoln Park Academy. The high-scoring effort was just what the Sharks needed considering they were shut out in their previous match.
Sebastian River got a massive performance out of Rily Biggers, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Alexa Pittman, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Sebastian River hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Merritt Island). Everything went their way against Titusville on Thursday as they made off with an 18-1 win. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.
Elena Rollen was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. She continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. Destiny Jarrett also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Sebastian River's win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 13-9. As for Merritt Island, their record now sits at 11-12.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Sebastian River hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .380. However, it's not like Merritt Island struggles in that department as they've averaged .319. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Sebastian River took their victory against Merritt Island in their previous matchup back in March by a conclusive 16-7 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Sharks since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
