It was a good run, but the Southwood Knights unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell 42-29 to Lewis Cass. While losing is never fun, Southwood can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 306th, while Lewis Cass is ranked 69th).
Southwood lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Emmerson Chellis, who scored four points along with ten rebounds and three steals.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Lewis Cass to victory, but perhaps none more so than Aftin Griffin, who scored 14 points along with three steals. Griffin is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Anna Hedrick was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Southwood's loss dropped their record down to 6-12. As for Lewis Cass, they are on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 18-2 record this season.
Southwood will be playing in front of their home fans against Maconaquah at 7:45 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Maconaquah focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 27 last Thursday. Lewis Cass on the road again on Monday and play against Rochester at 7:00 p.m. on January 22nd. Hopefully Rochester focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Saturday.
