1A Conference 6 recap October 29, 2013
Adding to the longest winning streak in 1A Conference 6 this week, West Montgomery beat South Stanly 60-7. The win marks seventh in a row for the the Warriors.
West Montgomery took down the Rowdy Rebel Bulls 60-7 last week, the largest margin of any game. Caleb Drake threw for 126 yards and 1 touchdown and ran for 92 yards during the win.
Drake provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Nick Eddins' team defeated South Stanly. Drake's key target this week was Tirea Sims, who caught 2 passes for 79 yards.
Craig Twele threw for 140 yards and 5 touchdowns.
Kevin McKinney was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 20 carries, he ran for 112 yards as Albemarle bested the Rowdy Rebel Bulls. Larry Stanback also contributed to the rushing game with 90 yards on the ground.
The leading receiver in the league this season is Timmie White. The Albemarle star has 20 catches for 662 yards.
Drake of the West Montgomery is only 27 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 114 carries Drake has accumulated 973 yard this year.
Next week's game between Union Academy and the Bulldogs will feature a good passing match up as Twele will test his arm against Terrace Ellis's defensive ability. Union Academy's Twele has recorded 1,334 yards and 22 touchdowns this year, while Albemarle's Ellis has 6 interceptions to his name.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Union Academy takes on Seth Smith's team. At the moment, Brad Hoover's team is in fourth, while the Bulldogs are in third.
Albemarle made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 6,935 from 7,784. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 42-0 victory over North Stanly last week.
