It was a good run, but the Marlington Dukes unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Saturday. They were outmatched by Boardman on the road and fell 54-22. While losing is never fun, Marlington can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 273rd, while Boardman is ranked 66th).
Boardman got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Mackenzie Riccitelli out in front who scored 17 points along with five assists and five steals. The contest was Riccitelli's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Sarah Bero was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds.
Marlington now has a losing record at 3-4. As for Boardman, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-1.
Marlington is on the road again on Tuesday and play against Canfield at 5:30 p.m. on December 19th. Boardman will be home for the holidays to greet Aurora at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Aurora will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
