After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Lamar, the Banning Lewis Academy Stallions were happy to have found some success on Wednesday. They enjoyed a cozy 63-49 win over Florence. The high flying offensive effort was a huge turnaround for Banning Lewis Academy considering their 23-point performance the matchup before.
Leading Banning Lewis Academy to victory were Joseph Bjegovich and Kobe Welch. Bjegovich scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and five assists, while Welch scored 20 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Welch has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Jones, who scored six points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Despite the loss, Florence still got an impressive performance from Gunnar Phillips, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and five assists. Gage Goodall was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with nine rebounds and two steals.
Banning Lewis Academy's win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-3. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.0 points per game. As for Florence, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-9.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Banning Lewis Academy will challenge The Vanguard School at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Vanguard School has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 630 points over their last eight contests. Florence's road trip will continue as they head out to face Colorado Springs Christian at 7:30 p.m. on January 23rd.
