The Salpointe Catholic Lancers posted their biggest win since December 12, 2023 on Friday. They put the hurt on Canyon del Oro with a sharp 65-43 victory. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory Salpointe Catholic has posted against Canyon del Oro since February 4, 2020.
Salpointe Catholic's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Joey Castillo led the charge by scoring eight points along with six rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Omar Rasul, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds.
Salpointe Catholic has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season. As for Canyon del Oro, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 16-8.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Salpointe Catholic will take on Pueblo at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Pueblo will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Arizona Rankings (they are ranked 238th, while Salpointe Catholic is ranked 46th). As for Canyon del Oro, they will head out on the road to square off against Sahuaro at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Sahuaro knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past six matchups -- so hopefully Canyon del Oro likes a good challenge.
