The Howells-Dodge Jaguars waltzed into their game on Tuesday with two straight wins but they left with three. They snuck past Battle Creek with a 46-42 victory. This was payback for Howells-Dodge, who suffered a 42-39 loss the last time these two teams met.
Howells-Dodge's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kenadie Throener led the charge by scoring 13 points along with three blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Kylie Brichacek, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
Despite the loss, Battle Creek still got an impressive performance from Sami Wemhoff, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. Wemhoff hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Sophie Humphrey, who scored seven points along with six rebounds.
Even though they lost, Battle Creek smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Howells-Dodge only pulled down seven offensive rebounds.
Howells-Dodge is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. As for Battle Creek, their loss dropped their record down to 12-3.
Howells-Dodge will be playing at home against the Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Battle Creek, they will head out on the road to face off against the Cardinals at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Boone Central will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Nebraska Rankings (they are ranked 119th, while the Braves are ranked 26th).
