The Westwood Panthers scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Saturday. They walked away with an 84-76 win over Onalaska. Given Westwood's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 288th, while Onalaska is ranked 814th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Westwood was led to victory by Brandon Russell and Kavian Bryant. Russell dropped a double-double on 16 points and 16 rebounds, while Bryant dropped a double-double on 40 points and 13 rebounds. Those 40 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Chris Carter, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds.
Despite the loss, Onalaska still got an impressive performance from Lucas Jackson, who scored 18 points. Johnny Byrd was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Westwood has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. As for Onalaska, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 10-13.
Westwood's road trip will continue as they head out to face Buffalo at 7:30 p.m. on January 2nd. As for Onalaska, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Tarkington at 1:30 p.m. on Friday.
