Wharton and Strawberry Crest are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2018, but likely not for long. Wharton will host Strawberry Crest at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Strawberry Crest will be up against a hot Wharton squad: the team just extended their winning streak to four. Wharton blew past Leto 8-1 on Saturday.
Conner Evans tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over six innings pitched. What's more, he gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had since back in February.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Alex Johnstone, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Chris Stroud, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Wharton hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in five consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Strawberry Crest got themselves on the board against Lennard on Saturday, but Lennard never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Longhorns with a sharp 8-0 win. The Chargers haven't had any issues with the Longhorns recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Brisen Tweedy was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI he has posted over his last 11 matchups. Reuben Vasquez was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Wharton's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-3. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games. As for Strawberry Crest, their win bumped their record up to 16-4.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Wharton hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .317. However, it's not like Strawberry Crest struggles in that department as they've averaged .343. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Wharton was able to grind out a solid victory over Strawberry Crest in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, winning 4-0. Does Wharton have another victory up their sleeve, or will Strawberry Crest turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
