Southern Lehigh has gone a perfect 7-0 against Saucon Valley recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Spartans will be playing in front of their home fans against the Panthers at 4:00 p.m. Southern Lehigh is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.
Southern Lehigh was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last match, but they sure didn't let that happen against Salisbury Township on Wednesday. The Spartans blew past the Falcons 13-3. The Spartans haven't had any issues with the Falcons recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.
Delaney Young made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Young was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Lila Padden and Lily Kelly did most of the damage at the plate: Padden went 4-for-5 with two triples, five RBI, and three runs, while Kelly went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one triple. That's the most hits Padden has posted since back in April of 2024. Demi Lewis was another key player, going 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBI.
Southern Lehigh kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Salisbury Township only managed six hits.
Meanwhile, Saucon Valley unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of Salisbury Township by a score of 4-2. Having soared to a lofty 16 runs in the game before, the Panthers couldn't push the score so high this time.
Savannah Schlegel was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. That double marked the first that she has hit this season.
Southern Lehigh pushed their record up to 12-7 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Saucon Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 6-8.
Saucon Valley's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Southern Lehigh has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .474. It's a different story for Saucon Valley, though, as they've only averaged .343. Will they be able to contain Southern Lehigh's hitters?
Southern Lehigh took their victory against Saucon Valley when the teams last played back in March by a conclusive 13-0 score. Will the Spartans repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
