The Cardinal Gibbons Chiefs will challenge the Western Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Cardinal Gibbons is coming into the match hot, having won their last ten games.
While Cardinal Gibbons' victory against St. Thomas Aquinas wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Chiefs had just enough and edged out the Raiders 4-3.

Lydia Berent was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Morgan Beavers was incredible, scoring two runs while going 3-for-3. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February.
Meanwhile, Western made easy work of Schoolhouse Prep on Tuesday and carried off a 12-1 win. With that victory, the Wildcats brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.
Like Cardinal Gibbons, Western also got a great game from a two-way player: Ali Solo. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Solo was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hanna Turner, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Kristina Bamsey also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Western's win was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-2-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.9 runs on average over those games. As for Cardinal Gibbons, their record now sits at 14-2.
Cardinal Gibbons might still be hurting after the 8-1 loss they got from Western when the teams last played back in March of 2017. Can the Chiefs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
