The Chesnee Eagles struggled with assists on Tuesday (the Blacksburg Wildcats had 11 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Chesnee was outmatched by the Wildcats at home and fell 64-25. While losing is never fun, Chesnee can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 247th, while the Wildcats are ranked 105th).
When it comes to explaining why Chesnee lost, one person who can't be blamed is Pearl Holloway. Despite the final result, she scored eight points along with seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Aubrey Aparis, who scored five points.
Shyrique Parker continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Blacksburg, dropping a double-double on 33 points and 12 rebounds. That makes it nine consecutive games in which Parker has scored at least a third of Blacksburg's points. Annabella Foster was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with 13 rebounds and four steals.
Chesnee has not been sharp recently as the team's lost 13 of their last 15 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-19 record this season. As for Blacksburg, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 8-9.
Chesnee will head out on the road to face off against the Cardinals at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in Landrum's favor as the squad sits on three straight wins at home while the Eagles have been banged up by five consecutive losses on the road. Blacksburg will take on the Warriors at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Greenville Tech Charter is coming into the contest on a five-game losing streak.
