Saint John Paul the Great Catholic was led to victory by Saleema Tinner and Nina Velandria. Tinner dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds, while Velandria scored 21 points along with four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Velandria has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Angelica Morales, who scored three points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Despite the loss, Oakcrest saw an underclassman step up: Kate Newsome scored 13 points along with five blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Mary Mehan, who scored six points along with 16 rebounds.
Saint John Paul the Great Catholic is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 6-7 record this season. As for Oakcrest, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-6.
