George Washington Prep moved up to 481 from 618 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Marine. A 32-0 win over West Adams Prep helped the Generals improve their standing.
Narbonne extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Mater Dei, 18-17. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Gauchos.
Phil Johnson and Tyree Simmons gave Gardena a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Johnson threw for 153 yards and three touchdowns, while Simmons ran for 93 yards. Teammate Lanell Mills added to the ground attack by rushing for 45 yards.
Troy Williams provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Narbonne defeated the Monarchs. He completed 11 passes for 186 yards and two touchdowns and also ran for one yards. Williams' favorite target this week was A.J. Richardson, who caught three passes for 82 yards.
Manuel Douglas's team's Williams and Richardson have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Williams has thrown for 882 yards this season, while Richardson, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 16 catches for 264 yards. Simmons from the Panthers leads the league in rushing with 599 yards.
Two of the top units in Marine will face off this week when the Gauchos take on Carson. Narbonne's offense has scored 198 points this season, good for No. 1 in the league, while the Colts have allowed only 233 on the year.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Gardena takes on San Pedro. The Panthers are currently in second, while the Pirates are in third.
Gardena took down Rancho Dominguez Prep 62-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Johnson in the win.
