V Section II recap Oct. 16, 2012
Northwest Christian extended the longest winning streak in V Section II this week by beating Camp Verde, 51-0. The victory was the eighth in a row for the team.
Yuma Catholic took down Parker 70-12 last week, the largest margin of any game.
TJ Widner threw for 182 yards and two touchdowns. He went 10-22 with one interceptions.
Jordan Leary was the best wideout in the league this week as Phoenix Christian fell to Scottsdale Christian Academy. Leary tallied six receptions for 83 yards. Matthew Pascal helped Phoenix Christian's passing attack out by catching two balls for 33 yards.
John Debus provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Cougars lost to the Eagles. He completed 12 passes for 158 yards and two touchdowns and also ran for 81 yards.
Alfred Erives was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 158 yards on 22 carries as Arizona Lutheran Academy fell to Scottsdale Christian Academy. Teammate Kaleb Buchholz added to the ground attack by rushing for 132 yards.
Hayden Harden made the biggest impact on defense this week as Tempe Prep defeated Sequoia. The 5-foot-10 junior pulled down two interceptions.
Brandon Harris' team's Debus and Leary have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading V Section II in both passing and receiving yards. Debus has thrown for 1421 yards this season, while Leary has 31 catches for 557 yards. The Coyotes' Erives leads the league in rushing yards with 1558.
The Cougars' Scottie Jordan is a mere 85 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season. In 108 carries Jordan has accumulated 915 yard this year.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Northwest Christian takes on Bourgade Catholic. As it stands, Dave Inness' team is in first, while the Golden Eagles are in ninth.
The Shamrocks led the league in scoring this week after putting up 70 points on the Broncs.
