The Richland Northeast Cavaliers struggled with offensive rebounds on Friday (the Irmo Yellowjackets had eight more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Richland Northeast fell just short of Irmo by a score of 40-38. Richland Northeast has not had much luck with Irmo recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Despite the loss, Richland Northeast saw an underclassman step up: Zimarika Moorer scored 15 points along with six rebounds and six steals. Moorer scored a full 39.5% of Richland Northeast's points, the sixth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sasha Cebula, who scored three points along with eight steals and seven rebounds.
Irmo was led to victory by Claire Howard and Abby Livingston. Howard scored ten points along with six blocks and five rebounds, while Livingston dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds. Those six blocks set a new season-high mark for her.
Richland Northeast's defeat dropped their record down to 6-6. As for Irmo, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 7-5.
Richland Northeast will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against A.C. Flora at 6:00 p.m. A.C. Flora presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Richland Northeast in South Carolina (A.C. Flora is ranked 20th, while Richland Northeast is ranked 132nd). As for Irmo, they will head out on the road to face off against Ridge View at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Ridge View will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
