Living Word Lutheran has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge the Heritage Christian Patriots at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Living Word Lutheran will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Wisconsin Rankings (they are ranked 215th, while the Patriots are ranked 66th).
Last Friday, Living Word Lutheran came up short against the Lightning and fell 59-48.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Dailyn Tyler, who scored 11 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryde Ehley, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Heritage Christian came tearing into Saturday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 24.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They claimed a resounding 106-62 win over Messmer at home. Heritage Christian has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matchups by 27 points or more this season.
It was another big night for Mike Bowen Jr., who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 11 rebounds. He hasn't dropped below two steals for 13 straight games. Another player making a difference was Alex Trotter, who scored 26 points.
Living Word Lutheran's defeat dropped their record down to 10-8. As for Heritage Christian, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-3 record this season.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the pair are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Living Word Lutheran hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 64.7 points per game. However, it's not like Heritage Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 82.1 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Living Word Lutheran ended up a good deal behind the Patriots in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, losing 70-56. Can Living Word Lutheran avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
