Baseball Recap: Narragansett Regional Takes a Loss

Narragansett Regional had lost five straight at home, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 4-11 to make it six. They fell just short of the St. Bernard's Central Catholic Bernardians by a score of 6-5. That's two games in a row now that the Warriors have lost by just one run.

Michael Casavant made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Trey Richard, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

As for St. Bernard's Central Catholic, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-8 record this season. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since May 16, 2024.

On St. Bernard's Central Catholic's side, Jonathan Quigley made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Quigley is becoming a predictor of St. Bernard's Central Catholic's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 3-1 (and 4-7 when he doesn't). Quigley was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Angelo Barry, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April. Austin Gibbons was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and one run.

Coming up, Narragansett Regional will venture away from home to challenge West Boylston at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. St. Bernard's Central Catholic will be paying especially close attention to the Warriors' match: after the Warriors face off against the Lions, they'll take on St. Bernard's Central Catholic again at 3:30 p.m. on Monday.
