The Madison-Grant Argylls were the 77-56 winner over the Blackford Bruins when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Madison-Grant opened the new year with a less-than-successful 53-48 defeat to they on Friday. That's two games in a row now that they have lost by exactly five points.
When it comes to explaining why Madison-Grant lost, one person who can't be blamed is Clayton Hull. Despite the final result, he scored 16 points. The match was Hull's eighth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Teagan Yeagy, who scored 18 points.
Blackford got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Gage Baker out in front who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds. Those 11 rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan Morris, who scored 14 points.
Madison-Grant are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-8. As for Blackford, their victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-4.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Madison-Grant will take on Northfield at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Northfield focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Friday. As for Blackford, they will look to defend their home court on Saturday against South Adams at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully South Adams focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 two weeks ago.
