Basketball Recap: Greene Central Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Greene Central, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They strolled past the West Craven Eagles with points to spare on Thursday, taking the game 87-69. Given the Rams' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 163rd, while the Eagles are ranked 406th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Jalin Sutton went supernova for Greene Central, dropping a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds. Nick Avent was another key player, putting up 12 points and six rebounds.

Greene Central was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in February of 2024.

West Craven's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jimmie West Lll, who almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine boards. The match was West Lll's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaiah Abrams, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten assists.

Greene Central has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.3 points per game. As for West Craven, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-6.

Greene Central will face off against Farmville Central at 7:30 p.m. on January 17th. Farmville Central knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 14 games -- so hopefully Greene Central likes a good challenge. As for West Craven, they will take on New Bern at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. West Craven is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59 points per game this season.
