Tri-West Hendricks and Plainfield are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2016, but likely not for long. The Bruins will look to defend their home field on Thursday against the Quakers at 6:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Tri-West Hendricks' pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They blew past Crawfordsville 15-0. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Bruins.
Natalie Tharp made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Tri-West Hendricks let Sophie White and Peyton Norman run wild. White got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Norman went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Emma Charles was another key player, going 1-for-2 with three runs and one RBI.
Tri-West Hendricks always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. The last time their OBP was this high was back in May of 2024.
Meanwhile, Plainfield had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 13-0 margin over the Artesians. The Quakers' pitching crew has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a run in their last three games.
The team relied heavily on Cali Clemments, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and one triple. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kenzi Arnett, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Plainfield's victory was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Tri-West Hendricks, the victory got them back to even at 4-4.
Thursday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Tri-West Hendricks hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .315. However, it's not like Plainfield struggles in that department as they've averaged .382. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Tri-West Hendricks skirted past Plainfield 1-0 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Will the Bruins repeat their success, or do the Quakers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
