The American Leadership Academy Patriots will face off against the Saluda Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. American Leadership Academy has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with three straight losses, while Saluda will come in with 12 straight victories.
Things were looking good for American Leadership Academy after they put the first points on the board on Tuesday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They came up short against Pelion, falling 12-2.
Ashleigh Fronden made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one double. Breana Borges was another key player, scoring a run while going 3-for-3.
Meanwhile, while Saluda put up plenty of runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Batesburg-Leesville. The Tigers put the hurt on the Panthers with a sharp 12-0 win. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by six runs or more this season.
Miller Martin was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.
In other pitching news, Kylee McGlohorn looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Nyla Jordan was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Amy Sorcia, who scored three runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
Saluda hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five strikeouts batters in six consecutive games.
Saluda pushed their record up to 13-3 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for American Leadership Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-11-1.
American Leadership Academy suffered a grim 9-2 defeat to Saluda when the teams last played two weeks ago. Will the Patriots have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
