The Mounds Golden Eagles's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 63-28 to Summit Christian Academy, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. While losing is never fun, Mounds can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma basketball rankings (they are ranked 423rd, while Summit Christian Academy is ranked 49th).
Loss or not, Mounds got some senior leadership from Alexa Wilson who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and Sophia Abbott who scored two points along with eight rebounds. Those seven rebounds set a new season-high mark for her.
Summit Christian Academy got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Kaylee Gibson out in front who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 17 assists. Those 17 assists set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Valeria Hill, who scored 21 points along with five rebounds.
Mounds' loss was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 1-6. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 19.4 points per game. As for Summit Christian Academy, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 6-0.
Mounds will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Chouteau-Mazie at 6:00 p.m. on January 9, 2024. Summit Christian Academy will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Riverfield Country Day at 12:30 p.m. on January 4, 2024. Hopefully Riverfield Country Day focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 35 on Friday.
