Aptos has gone a perfect 10-0 against Harbor recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Mariners will be playing at home against the Pirates at 4:30 p.m. The timing is sure in Aptos' favor as the team sits on eight straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Harbor has been banged up by 15 consecutive losses on the road also dating back to last season.
Aptos' pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They put the hurt on Soquel with a sharp 15-0 victory. Considering the Mariners have won 11 matchups by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Gwen Vaca and Nova Neu did most of the damage at the plate: Vaca got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Neu went 1-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Izzy Baker, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Harbor couldn't beat San Lorenzo Valley on Thursday even though they stacked five runs on them in the fifth inning. The Pirates lost 16-6 to the Cougars.
Leah Heitmann was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those stolen bases were her first of the season.
Aptos has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.9 runs over those games. As for Harbor, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-14.
Harbor's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Aptos has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .473. It's a different story for Harbor, though, as they've only averaged .303. Will they be able to contain Aptos' hitters?
Everything went Aptos' way against Harbor in their previous meeting two weeks ago, as Aptos made off with a 16-2 victory. Do the Mariners have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Pirates turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
