The Farmington Knights will take on the Dexter Bearcats at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Farmington's pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so Dexter's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Farmington saw some tournament action on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past North County 4-2. The win continues a trend for the Knights in their matchups with the Raiders: they've now won four in a row.
Cooper Tripp made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over four innings pitched. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April. He was also solid in the batter's box, earning one run and three stolen bases.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jackson McDowell, who went 1-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last game, Dexter made sure to put some runs up on the board against Oak Ridge on Tuesday. The Bearcats put the hurt on the Blue Jays with a sharp 15-1 victory. The Bearcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by six runs or more this season.
Like Farmington, Dexter also got a great game from a two-way player: Trey Pedigo. He struck out eight batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. Pedigo has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one RBI.
In other batting news, Justus Lovelady was a standout: he went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs and two stolen bases. Dexter is undefeated when Lovelady posts two or more runs, but 7-8 otherwise. Beau Carrier was another key player, going 3-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles.
Dexter always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Oak Ridge only posted an OBP of .276.
Farmington's win bumped their record up to 17-6. As for Dexter, their victory bumped their record up to 16-8.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Farmington has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Dexter struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Farmington's way against Dexter when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Farmington made off with a 9-1 win. Do the Knights have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bearcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
