The Windham Eagles are taking a road trip to take on the Scarborough Red Storm at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Windham is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 12-1 margin over Thornton Academy on Friday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Eagles with their most commanding win of the season.
Kennedy Kimball made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out ten over 4.2 innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. She also put up a run, which was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Chloe Edwards was incredible, going 1-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Oakley McLeod also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Windham was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Thornton Academy only posted a batting average of .211.
Meanwhile, Scarborough never let their opponents score on Saturday. They blew past Falmouth 18-0. Considering the Red Storm have won three games by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Windham, Scarborough also got a great game from a two-way player: Scarlett Floyd. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Floyd was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Asa Howe, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with five RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Giuiliana Giftos was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
The win made it two in a row for Scarborough and bumps their season record up to 3-6. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 2 run in those games. As for Windham, their record is now 5-1.
Windham beat Scarborough 5-0 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Red Storm have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
