Somerset Academy South Homestead is a perfect 3-0 against Hialeah Educational Academy since April of 2023 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Hurricanes will take on the Biggie at 4:00 p.m. Somerset Academy South Homestead knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with ten runs or more in their past four games -- so hopefully Hialeah Educational Academy likes a good challenge.
Somerset Academy South Homestead took a 11-run loss the last time they faced off against Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Hurricanes narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Cyclones 11-9. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Hurricanes have posted since March 19, 2024.

Sophia Garcia was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up eight earned (and one unearned) runs off 11 hits. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 6 strikeouts per game. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more stolen bases the last three times she's played.
In other batting news, Brianna Vasallo was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Mia Santiago, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI and one double.
Somerset Academy South Homestead was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .382. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .382 or higher in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hialeah Educational Academy). They blew past Pine Crest 30-19 on Tuesday. The Biggie might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by seven runs or more this season.
Hialeah Educational Academy has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.5 runs over those games. As for Somerset Academy South Homestead, their record is now 5-2.
Everything went Somerset Academy South Homestead's way against Hialeah Educational Academy in their previous meeting back in February, as Somerset Academy South Homestead made off with a 16-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hurricanes since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
