The Grenada Chargers won the last time they faced the Winona Tigers, and things went their way on Friday too. Grenada simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Winona 57-24 at home. Given Grenada's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 106th, while Winona is ranked 229th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Grenada had a senior duo take command as Lauren Harges scored 14 points along with five assists and three steals and Kyla Hughes scored 13 points along with seven rebounds. The contest was Harges' eighth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Carlei Brown, who scored six points along with eight rebounds.
The victory makes it two in a row for Grenada and bumps their season record up to 6-2. As for Winona, they bumped their record down to 3-7 with that loss, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Grenada will be home for the holidays to greet Olive Branch at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Winona will be home for the holidays to greet Nanih Waiya at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Nanih Waiya is coming into the match hot, having won their last six games.
