Shore - South B recap September 24, 2013
Monsignor Donovan's Joey Fields recorded the longest rushing play in Shore - South B this season in his game against Lakewood last week. Fields ran for 60 yards on the play and finished with 79 on the day as his team bested the Piners.
Central Regional scaled the state rankings by moving to 197 from 245 this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Golden Eagles climbed the ranks as a result of topping Liberty 21-16.
Manchester Township's dynamic duo of Kashaun Barnes and Devin Tomei proved tough for Barnegat to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Barnes threw for 156 yards and 2 touchdowns and Tomei had 77 yards receiving.
The Hawks' dynamic duo of Barnes and Tomei proved to be unstoppable against the Bengals, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
Tomei was the best wideout in the league this week as Manchester Township fell to Barnegat.
AJ Opre was the most successful running back in Shore - South B this week. He ran for 148 yards on 30 carries as Rob Davis' team fell to Rob Davis' team. Teammate Tyler McGuiness added to the ground attack by rushing for 68 yards.
Barnes put up the best numbers in passing as the Hawks lost to the Bengals.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Manchester Township's Barnes and Tomei have proven to be a lethal combination. Barnes has thrown for 263 yards this season, while Tomei, a 6-foot-3 receiver, has 6 catches for 126 yards. Opre from Barnegat leads the league in rushing with 276 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Barnegat takes on second place Monsignor Donovan. Last week, the Bengals beat the Hawks, while Monsignor Donovan topped Lakewood.
There should be lots of points scored when Dan Duddy's team and Barnegat face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Griffins comes in having scored 47 this season, while the Bengals have scored 79. Monsignor Donovan scored 27 points last week as it bested L.J. Clark's team.
The Griffins took down the Piners 27-6 last week, the largest margin of any game. Vinny Grasso threw for 42 yards and ran for 91 yards during the win.
