Hays is 10-0 against Liberal since January of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Hays Indians will be home for the holidays to greet the Liberal Redskins at 8:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
On Tuesday, things could have been worse for Hays, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 57-38 loss to Heights. While losing is never fun, Hays can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 106th, while Heights is ranked 22nd).
Meanwhile, Liberal was beaten by South 76-44 on Saturday. Liberal was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 40-13.
Liberal's defeat came about despite a quality game from J. Brooks Kappelmann, who scored seven points along with seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Xavier Tafoya, who scored four points along with five rebounds.
This is the second loss in a row for Hays and nudges their season record down to 2-4. As for Liberal, their loss dropped their record down to 3-2.
Everything came up roses for Hays against Liberal when the teams last played back in February as the squad secured a 76-36 win. Does Hays have another victory up their sleeve, or will Liberal turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
