The Unionville Longhorns will face off against the Springfield Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
Unionville came into their game on Friday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against Bayard Rustin, falling 9-1. The defeat continues a trend for the Longhorns in their meetings with the Golden Knights: they've now lost five in a row.
Unionville saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jake Wilson, who went 1-for-2 with one run. Logan Grayston also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, Springfield got themselves on the board against Harriton on Monday, but Harriton never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Rams with a sharp 10-0 victory. With that win, the Cougars brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.
Springfield also got a great performance from Drew Kraus as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave Kraus a new career-high.
On the hitting side, Shane McCaffrey and John Hopkins did most of the damage at the plate: McCaffrey went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double, while Hopkins went 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBI. Those three runs gave Hopkins a new career-high. Nick Corse was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Springfield kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in three consecutive matchups.
Unionville's loss dropped their record down to 6-13. As for Springfield, their victory bumped their record up to 12-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Unionville has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Springfield struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Unionville came out on top in a nail-biter against Springfield in their previous matchup back in May of 2025, sneaking past 4-3. Will the Longhorns repeat their success, or do the Cougars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
