Basketball Recap: Monroe Central Takes Down Seton Catholic in a Playoff Battle

With a playoff win on the line, Monroe Central rose to the challenge on Saturday. They took down the Seton Catholic Cardinals 73-55. For the Golden Bears, this counts as revenge for the 47-34 win the Cardinals walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2022.

Easton Foster continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double with 23 points and 11 rebounds. His big performance that evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 16 points. Another player making a difference was Justus Ullom, who went 6-for-11 on his way to 15 points and seven boards.

Monroe Central was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Seton Catholic only seven assists.

Several Cardinals players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Tyson Tremain, who shot 71% from the field en route to 13 points and five rebounds. Tremain is also on a roll when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last three games he's played. Jason Moynihan was another key player, putting up 16 points.

Monroe Central is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-6 record this season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 31.1 points. The loss snapped Seton Catholic's winning streak at ten games and leaves them with a 16-11 record.

Coming up, Monroe Central will square off against Daleville at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Monroe Central knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past six contests -- so hopefully Daleville likes a good challenge. Seton Catholic does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
