The St. Catherine's Saints will take on the Saint Gertrude Gators at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. St. Catherine's will be looking to extend their current 11-game winning streak.
The home team had come away the winner the last seven times St. Catherine's and Trinity Episcopal had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Saints blew past the Titans 11-1 on Monday. Considering the Saints have won nine matchups by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Kinnady Branch made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-5.
In other batting news, Izzy Viruet and Day Vetter did most of the damage at the plate: Viruet went 1-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Vetter went 2-for-5 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that Vetter launched this season. Another player making a difference was Jordan Morey, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
St. Catherine's kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Trinity Episcopal only managed eight hits.
Meanwhile, Saint Gertrude came up short against Trinity Episcopal on Thursday and fell 11-7.
Campbell Kincaid made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
St. Catherine's pushed their record up to 12-1 with the victory, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for Saint Gertrude, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-7 record this season.
St. Catherine's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's contest. The Saints have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.6 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Saint Gertrude, though, as they've been averaging only 1.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will St. Catherine's continue to outrun the ball?
St. Catherine's took their victory against Saint Gertrude in their previous matchup back in March by a conclusive 13-2 score. Do the Saints have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Gators turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
