Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Santa Fe Christian proved: they limited Bishop's to a paltry 1.5 yards per carry. The team can thank Everett Kerkhoff for the heroic effort on defense: he. Santa Fe Christian hasn't allowed more than 5.4 yards per carry in four consecutive contests.
Santa Fe Christian's defense also made the game a nightmare for Cash Herrera, racking up eight sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Cole Hajjar and Kerkhoff, who racked up four sacks between them. Hajjar also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with 13.
Meanwhile, it can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but St. Augustine had no problem doing just that on Friday. Santa Fe Christian better keep an eye on Paisios Polamalu. He was instrumental in St. Augustine's win, rushing for 263 yards and five scores while picking up 9.4 yards per carry, and also picking up 67 receiving yards and one touchdown. Polamalu's longest rush was for an incredible 80 yards.
St. Augustine didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Polamalu and Austin Lambeth. Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's matchup: Santa Fe Christian has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 370.5 total yards per game. It's a different story for St. Augustine, though, as they've been averaging only 188.5 total yards. Will Santa Fe Christian be able to march up the field at their leisure again, or will the Saints flip the script?
Santa Fe Christian was dealt a bruising 46-0 defeat at the hands of St. Augustine in their previous meeting back in August of 2018. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
