Conifer (Colo.) and
D'Evelyn (Denver, Colo.) couldn't stop each other, but eventually
Conifer (Colo.) came away with the 50-38 victory.
The Lobos scored 19 points in the fourth quarter on three rushing touchdowns.
Conifer was up 23-17 at the half after taking the lead on a field goal by
Travis Tadra in the second quarter.
CHS expanded its lead to seven points entering the fourth quarter. The Lobos scored two times in the third, including once on a touchdown run.
Thomas Kim and
Matthew McClintock ran for a bunch of touchdowns for the Jaguars. Kim scored two touchdowns on the ground and McClintock added three as well.
D'Evelyn's
Cody Marvel played well. The senior quarterback threw one touchdown, ran for two touchdowns and kicked one extra point. His performance brought his touchdown total to seven on the year.
The victory is a complete turnaround from last season's game between these two teams, which DE took, 42-20.
The defeat comes as a step back for D'Evelyn, which notched a 54-7 victory over Summit in its previous outing. The loss snapped the Denver school's 3-game winning streak.
In a non-conference game next week Conifer (5-1) takes on Rifle, and D'Evelyn (4-3) will go up against Evergreen in a 3A Metro - West game.
