The Lake Region Lakers will square off against the Greely Rangers on Saturday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Lake Region is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They walked away with an 11-6 win over York. The victory was familiar territory for the Lakers, who have now won three contests in a row.
Brock Gibbens was a standout: he got on base in all five of his plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Brayden Wilson, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Meanwhile, Greely entered their tilt with Leavitt on Thursday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They blew past the Hornets 12-1. Considering the Rangers have won eight games by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Keeler Vogt made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBI.
In other batting news, Greely got a big performance out of Kyle Soule, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Wes Piper was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Greely always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .645. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Lake Region's record now sits at 14-4. As for Greely, their record is now 14-3.
Lake Region took their win against Greely when the teams last played back in May by a conclusive 9-3 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lakers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
